Ragdoll Cat Adoption Calgary, Alberta, Canada: KIRBY - Ragdoll Rescue Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Tuesday, May 7, 2013 by Ragdoll Rehoming Team

Ragdoll Rescue Alberta CanadaKirby is a handsome, loving, 3 year old Lilac Point Mink Ragdoll and he needs a furrever family! He is a purebred ragdoll and comes with TICA(International Cat Association) certified pedigree and registration. Right now he lives with us in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. His future family must be willing to drive here to pick him up, we will not put him through the trauma of being on an airplane.

KIRBY’S STORY
About six months ago we rescued this wonderful guy to get him out of a bad situation. We are heartbroken that we are unable to keep him. Our older cat just refuses to get along with him which makes them both unhappy. We’ve done plenty of research and tried everything under the sun. We had hoped that with patience and taking it slowly things would get better but they have not. We love him to pieces but know that he could be happier elsewhere.

Kirby had a rough start to life but has come a long way! He is still shy with strangers but once he gets to know you he is a non stop purring machine and lives for snuggles. It only took him about a week to warm up to us. He really will make the perfect pet for the right family.

GET TO KNOW KIRBY
We would like to be 100% upfront and honest about him. He is a wonderful boy with many adorable qualities but also some quirks! Here they are:

The quirks:
1. He’s got plenty of cattitude and is very vocal around supper time!
2. He can tend to play pretty rough with other pets so he wouldn’t be a good fit for a home with a timid dog or cat or small children.
3. He does occasionally “love bite”, but its not very hard and never breaks skin. We also have some good tips for deterring him from doing this!
4. He’s also very particular with his litter box, he requires two, one for #1 and one for #2. His litter requires daily emptying otherwise he will let you know how displeased he is with his dirty litter by going to the bathroom on your furniture. If you are unwilling to work on this with him please don’t inquire about him.
5. He LOVES food, human food, dog food, garbage, it’s all good to him, so please be mindful of dishes left out or eating at his level.
6. He’ll steal food right off your plate if he gets the chance!
7. He also likes to gnaw on plastic so it’s important for his future home to not leave small objects lying around that he could choke on.

The adorable:
1. He is super affectionate and loves to sit on laps
2. Once he gets to know you he loves giving kisses
3. He is extremely handsome and has the softest fluffy coat!
4. If you are busy doing something he will happily sit and purr while watching you.
5. He is your typical ragdoll, he often flops to the ground and rolls on his back purring.
6. He also goes limp like a ragdoll when you pick him up.
7. He is very docile and will let you do pretty much whatever you’d like to him(roll him around, brush him, clip his nails, give him a waterless bath). As long as you’re touching him he’s happy!
8. He’s extremely smart, sometimes too smart!
9. He can be very playful and when he’s in that mode he behaves just like a kitten, it’s really cute!
10. He has this extremely cute habit: If his water dish is half full he’ll use his paw to drink it! Here is a video of him doing that on youtube:

WHAT WE WILL BE SENDING KIRBY HOME WITH
We will provide his furrever family with his:
1. Vaccination records (All of his vaccinations are up to date)
2. Blood work records(we had pre-anesthetic blood work run before he was neutered)
3. 2 Litter Boxes
4. 2 Food bowls
5. Toys
6. Treats
7. His Christmas Stocking
8. He is currently being fed Go! Natural Chicken/Turkey/Duck dry food and we would like him to stay on this or a food of equal quality. We will provide you with a weeks worth to get you started.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING KIRBY?

Please visit the website we created for him if you are interested! There is an adoption form for him on the contact page.
Here is his website:
http://kirbytheragdoll.wordpress.com/

We are in no rush to rehome him and will keep him until the perfect family comes along for him. We care deeply about him and will provide his future home with as much support and tips as possible. Also, we would like to do a two month trial period. If at any point during the two months you feel he isn’t the right fit for your family you can bring him back to us and we’ll provide you with a refund. His happiness is what matters most to us. We’d like to stay in contact with his future family, maybe hear how he’s doing once or twice a year. In addition, his future family MUST agree to keep him as an indoor cat only, he is not built for the outdoors!

Blue Point, large, excellent health and habits.

I have a rescued severly traumatized cat (broken tail, etc.) that I rescued 6 years ago and she is so nervous around Pandora that she has taken to urinating on the furniture. Pandora just wants to have fun but it is just not working out. Pandora is a lap lover, loves to listen to me sing, is curious in a real cat way and is lovely to look at. Please consider her for your pet.

What to Expect When You Bring a New Kitten Home

Saturday, April 6, 2013 by Jenny Dean

A Ragdoll Kitten Care Guide: Bringing Your Ragdoll Kitten HomeIt can be a very interesting and nerve-wracking experience for a kitten to come to your home. Imagine being removed from the settings you were used to and plopped into a new home by a stranger. I'd imagine you'd be rather scared too! The best way to deal with this is to isolate the cat to a rather small, enclosed room. Make sure there are cat food bowls for both water and food in this area. There will also need to be a litter box. Aim to get a box most similar to the one the cat had been using and fill it with litter products he or she is used to. This helps to make your new kitten feel like they're back at home.

A little bit of familiarity in a strange place can really help out. The litter box needs to be as far away as possible from the food and water within this room. Cats do not like to eat near where they bury their waste (understandably). Don't be worried if your cat doesn't eat the first night. It's very likely that they are shaken up and need time to adjust. All you can do is make sure their needs are met and speak calmly and soothingly to them. It doesn't hurt to provide a few cat toys but don't feel dismayed if the kitten doesn't immediately take to them. They're under a lot of stress but the more comfortable they become in the new settings, the more you'll see their true personality come out. If you're planning on bringing a new kitten home, check out "A Ragdoll Kitten Care Guide". While this book talks about the ragdoll breed in the title, it also further discusses tips for all kinds of cats, like how to bring home a kitten into a house that already has cats. This is extremely important for cat owners to know and understand because otherwise, you're going to be dealing with a bunch of angry cats, and that can get messy real quick.

The best way for two cats to become acquainted is through the door, where they can paw at each other underneath. If you simply bring home a new kitten and set it down next to your three-year old tabby, there's a serious chance of fur flying. You don't want your new kitten to get hurt, and you don't want your long-time friend to be upset. Allowing them to play under the door brings the curiosity element into it. We all know how curious cats can be, so getting that side of them up and going can distract them from territorial issues. "A Ragdoll Kitten Care Guide" deals with all of these potential problems so you can prepare yourself beforehand. Without reading up on possible issues, you doom yourself to further problems later on. For example, if your two cats aren't properly introduced, you can be sure that issue isn't just going to resolve itself magically one day. Whether you're bringing home a Ragdoll cat or not, this guide is incredibly helpful, recommending quick fixes and alerting you what to watch out for.

My Siamese Mix - J.R.

Monday, March 18, 2013 by Ragdoll Cat Stories

JR - Snowshoe or Ragdoll? Here is my Story on how I got my Ragoll J.R.

My Siamese A.J. just past away, at 12 yrs. I missed him so much, I went advertised for another Siamese. I went to the local pet shoppe and left my name and phone #.

They called me a week later, A.J. two weeks. They said they had a Siamese mix male cat, just came in. My mom and I went to look at him, as soon as I saw him I knew he was a Ragdoll.

The lady that had him had him given to her from a friend that went on a trip. Her boyfriend was allergic to him, so she took him to the pet shoppe, then I came along and adopted him. He was 6 mos. old, will be 6 yrs. old in Aug. I was petting him and playing with him and found fleas on him, so I gave him an organic flea bath and no fleas for 5 1/2 yrs. His name is from A.J., the J for A.J. and the R. for jr. I paid $79.00 for him b/c he was 6 mos. and they didn't realize what he was.

He loves to fetch, plays with my blk calico, likes to get upon my lap and love me. I'll email a couple of photos. He is worth every thing. He has the loudest purr of any of my cats, and very soothing.

I just love him, he loves yogurt, if I'm eating some yogurt, he comes and begs me for mine, even after I give him his.

So you think he is a Snowshoe? Well I saw a Ragamuffin that was marked just like him, he was a blue color, the bib, mitted paws, except for the white on his nose, the Ragamuffin had a solid color face.
He is begging me for his yogurt.

What ever he is I love him and he has the Siamese and the blue eyes. He is the largest kitty i have ever had. He is large boned, weighs 20 lbs.

Izzy BHe is floppy and my blk calico, really flops , she flops down when she lays down, flops herself down on my lap, I've had her since kitten age, for her on a friends ranch. A real busy body. Her name is Izzy B. Short for Izzy Bizzy.

Ok, that would be ok for me. I purchased him as a Siamese mix,
I knew when I saw him he was more. He is so adorable, I love him to bits.

Do Ragdolls Like Their Litter Box in Privacy?

Friday, March 15, 2013 by Jenny Dean

Charlie in NVR Miss Litter BoxThe Ragdoll breed of cats is very different from other cats in many ways, however, just like other cats, they prefer their litter box to be in a private area. Your best bet when you bring home a new kitten is to first use the same litter as the person you got the kitten from was using. Switching litter so quickly on a kitten can irritate their skin and make them not want to use the litter box. it also helps to provide a litter box as close as possible to the one they had been using so as not to confuse them.

Your new Ragdoll cat will love your attention of course, but when he's new to the home, he'll also want some privacy. It's important that he have his own designated space. While kittens will grow to appreciate stimulating and open atmospheres eventually, they at first seek calm and quiet. At the same time, when it comes to litter boxes, your Ragdoll cat's desire for a clean one in a private space is not likely to change. Having this designated area to relieve themselves soothes them and makes it easier for them to go. Think about it: if you were in a crowded area with people talking, would you really want to choose this place for using the bathroom?

Chances are no!  Cats are just like us in many ways. Rag Doll kittens and cats alike don't want to do something so private in public. It's also a survival instinct. Before cats were domesticated, it would have been silly for them to use the bathroom around other animals because it could leave them open to attack. Survival is a very important instinct for Ragdolls and other cats alike. It is important for us as humans to respect that.

Feliway 48-Milliliter Plug-in Refill

Tuesday, March 5, 2013 by Jenny Dean

Feliway 48-Milliliter Plug-In Refills, 6 RefillsAlthough a Ragdoll cat is known to be a quiet and docile animal it too, like other felines is territorial, marking its space with such behavior as vertical scratching and urinating. No owner wants to watch the cat scratch furniture. Now, Feliway is the perfect cat product to dissuade such unwanted behavior.

Feliway acts as an artificial pheromone to keep your feline in a state of calm and give it a sense of familiarity by imitating the cat’s natural pheromones. The Feliway plug-in diffuses this artificial pheromone and can be plugged into most any common household outlet.

The Feliway diffuser usually lasts about four weeks and although some may last longer depending on the air environment and location, they should generally be changed at the fourth week as the device will never completely empty. This is simply because at a certain point it cannot connect with the wick.

The Feliway 48-Milliliter Plug-in refill for your diffuser provides a fast and convenient resource to replace your Feliway plug-in ensuring there is enough on hand in cases of unexpected changes in your cat’s environment.

If you are wondering if Feliway is safe, know that it has been tested and approved by Underwriters Laboratories. Rest assured that it is perfectly safe for humans and will not affect your other pets as other species are not controlled by pheromones. Yet it will add to your sense of calm and well-being because when your cat is happy and calm, you tend to be happy too.

The Kong Zoomgroom: The Best Grooming Brush for Your Ragdoll

Sunday, March 3, 2013 by Jenny Dean

Kong Zoom Groom For Cats

The Ragdoll breed has hair that is almost mat-resistant because its silky coat tends to stay smooth and does not require the type of grooming that some longhaired breeds do. Yet, regular combing and brushing is necessary to control shedding and to keep the coat beautiful. In addition regular combing and brushing will remove the loose cat hair from your Ragdoll coat before they have a chance to shed off onto your clothes and furniture.

The Kong Zoomgroom is one of best grooming brushes on the market. This brush removes loose hair as if the hairs were somehow drawn to it. In addition it invigorates capillaries and helps your feline coat with the production of its natural oils. Regular grooming with the Zoomgroom will also help to reduce hair balls, making both cat and owner happy. This is one of those cat products that is a must-have.

When you groom your Ragdoll cat two to three times a week you’ll keep on top of any abnormalities such as lumps cuts and scratches. Both you and your cat will learn to enjoy groom time. The brush is made of soft rubber and is easy for you to handle. In addition your cat will enjoy the massaging of the gentle bristles. No longer will grooming be a hassle or something that you and your furry feline dread. Also, by establishing a regular grooming routine your cat will become accustomed to such a necessary part of its care.

Ultimate Touch Cat Claw Clipper Makes Groom Time Easy

Friday, March 1, 2013 by Jenny Dean

Ultimate Touch Cat Claw Clipper

Cats’ claws grow continuously and need to be clipped occasionally. Even when your cat is using a cat scratch pole, an indoor cat’s claws, like the Ragdoll breed do not wear down as quickly as the outdoor cat’s. If the nails are not tended to they can curve under and grow back into the paw pads and cause painful swelling to your feline companion. Regular trimming reduces the risks of injury to you and helps prevent snags in your furnishings as well as your carpet.

The Ultimate Cat Claw Clipper is indeed one of the ultimate cat grooming products. It comes recommended by professional groomers and is perfect for fast and simple nail clipping. Nail clipping time does not have to be a tedious and unpleasant experience for you and your cat. It does not even have to be costly and time consuming.  Which means you can avoid so many costly trips to your vet.

Start by clipping two to three nails at a time, then increase as your Ragdoll becomes accustomed to getting his nails trimmed regularly using the Ultimate Touch Cat Claw Clipper. Your cat will get use to the routine and so will you.
The clippers are easy to clean. In addition these clippers are made from the finest materials. The clippers are made from surgical, stainless steel and are therefore durable and long-lasting and are perfectly safe to use on your cat regularly.

The Hagen Catit Design Fresh and Clear Cat Drinking Fountain Encourages Water Consumption

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 by Jenny Dean

Hagen Catit Design Fresh and Clear Cat Drinking Fountain, Original

Water has been called the “forgotten nutrient” because its importance is sometimes overlooked when owners talk about food and drink for their cats. Milk is an important nutrient, but nothing can replace water.  The truth is cats cannot survive for very long without it. Water is important to ensure proper kidney function, and helps to prevent feline urinary diseases.

If you are trying to encourage your feline to consume more water the Hagen Catit Design Fresh and Clear Cat Drinking Fountain may be the solution.  It is the perfect cat product in that it provides your cat with a perpetual resource of fresh, filtered water that will encourage your Ragdoll cat to drink more often.

The Catit Fresh and Clear Drinking Fountain is also the ideal cat water fountain if you have more than one cat in your household. The fountain holds 100 fluid ounces of water, ensuring that there is enough water for several days or for multiple cats. The continuous flow of the water prevents the water from growing stale. It also has a multi-stage filtration that collects food as well as hair and other debris making sure the water is clean. The fountain runs quietly when it is on, but if it begins to gurgle, you know that you need to add water. The raised design provides your cat with the perfect drinking position. Your cat will not mind lapping from this fountain as it takes in as much water as it needs. The Fresh and Clear Fountain will have your cat drinking until it is content.

West Paw Hemp Bumper Bed: One the Best Beds for Cats

Sunday, February 24, 2013 by Jenny Dean

West Paw Design Hemp Bumper Bed Large 37 by 32-Inch Dog Stuffed Bed, CoalAnyone who knows about Ragdoll cats understands that these gentle felines enjoy a comfortable place in which to lay their head.  Many prefer their owner’s bed for their frequent siestas but the West Paw Hemp Bumper Bed is ideal in comfort and resilience when considering beds for cats.

The bed is filled with an IntelliLoft ®fill which is durable and helps the bed maintain its shape and comfort over time. IntelliLoft is made from 100% recycled materials.  This reengineered fill makes the most of reused plastic bottles which would have gone to landfills; so you are helping the environment and your furry companion.

Its covering is made of hemp, which is ideal for pet beds because it is stronger than cotton, the design of many pet beds. Also, because pet bedding should be washed frequently you will be glad to know that the hemp covering can withstand many washes without wearing out. You simply zip off the covering and toss it into the machine.

This bed is one of the safest cat products of its kind. The bumpers are designed to hold your pet securely in the bed and give them a sense of safety and security. Also because felines are known to rest almost 18 hours in a single day your cat will have the perfect spot to spend its sleeping time.

The neutral colors of the bed blend right into any home’s interior. The beds also come in three different sizes making it perfect from kittens up to full grown adult cats.

**ADOPTED*** Ragdoll Rescue Orinda, California - Tiger Lily - Ragdoll Rehoming Orinda, California

Sunday, February 24, 2013 by Ragdoll Rehoming Team

**ADOPTED***

Tiger Lily is British! She is a purebred Ragdoll from London where we purchased she and her sister as kittens, before moving home to California We were devastated to lose her sister a year ago. She is neutered and a very lovable little lady. She is an indoor cat but loves being outside on our second floor balcony in the daytime. She is very sweet with a cute little face and gets along just fine with our Boston Terrier, Chloe so would be fine with a puppy. We are re-homing her as our kids are now out of the house and we will be traveling and hate leaving her alone or in boarding often.

She is a lovely color with thick, elegant fur. No health problems though she can get bird mites if she is out on balconies with birds (like ours) so would need the prescription Frontline flea medicine if you anticipate this type of setting. She is very affectionate and loves attention. We have always fed her high quality dry food. We've had a kitty 'potty' - automatic for a few years, but she is fine iwth regular kitty litter as well. We want her to go to a loving home. She would make a wonderful companion for an older person that is home full time or a family with kids that love kitties.

She still has a touch of the Brit in her I'm sure- very polite and ladylike!

Age: Eight years old

FindTheBest Food for Your Ragdoll!

Thursday, February 21, 2013 by Ragdoll Cat Stories

Ragdoll KittenMy cousin Katherine just got a ragdoll kitten named Mimi! She’s an adorable and friendly new addition to the family, and we’re all excited to see grow.

The only problem was that Katherine and her family has only ever owned dogs, and they were completely stumped on how to find the best kind of cat food for their new member. I suppose it was a happy coincidence that I recently started working at FindTheBest, an unbiased and data driven reviews website that has a cat food comparison. Katherine used it to search and filter out different brands by life stage, ingredient information, special conditions, and primary protein source.

Compare Cat Food

Needless to say, Mimi loves her new food!

Help! I'm Exhausted! How Do I Stop My Cat From Waking Me Up at 6:30 a.m. Every Morning?

Monday, February 18, 2013 by Ragdoll Cat Stories

Ragdoll CatMopsie is my 10 1/2 year old rescue kitty. She's such a sweetie! I have had cats most of my life, but this is the first ragdoll that has owned me, for truly that is what happens when you acquire a cat.

My question, and I hope someone has an answer, is: how do I break her of waking me 6:30 a.m. every morning?? Evidently her previous ownee was an early riser and Mopsie was fed promptly in the wee hours. I don't mind so much on weekdays, but sometimes on the weekends I stay up later and need to sleep!

Don't tell me to go to bed earlier. My husband is the other Love of my life and he is a night owl. I try to stay up with him as late as I can so we can have quality time together.

I have tried ignoring her, but although she normally has a meek voice she can be quite vocal if she wants something. And the other morning I made the mistake in my sleep of sticking my foot out from under the covers. She nipped my toe to awaken me, which I did with a start! Another waking habit she has is to paw at the door. It doesn't matter if I leave it ajar for her to come and go as she pleases, she does it anyway, sometimes shutting the door in the process.

Please give me some suggestions. I am afraid I am losing my sanity with my lack of sleep. This has been going on now for 5 months, ever since we took her in and I am sllep-deprived.

Thank you in advance for any help you or your readers might give me...
