Ragdoll Cat Adoption: Gabriel - Ragdoll Rescue

Saturday, October 15, 2011 by Ragdoll Rehoming Team
I rescued Gabriel -- literally. Met this cat one month ago at the vets jammed into a zipped-up gym bag, meowing piteously. The woman was moving and intended to euthanize the cat because she thought he had fleas. The cat was her daughter's -- she found it but was no longer interested in a pet.

This is a beautiful feline, really top notch. But I already have six cats and a dog. Gabriel is very friendly but I wouldn't put him in a home with young children. Seal point with beautiful markings -- could be a show cat.

Only to a very good home where he will be loved and protected.

Age: Unknown, perhaps four

Ragdoll Rescue Nashville - Ragdoll Rehoming

Thursday, October 6, 2011 by Ragdoll Rehoming Team
Ragdoll Rescue NashvilleI am going to pick this cat up tonight and below is all the information I have on her:

his beautiful pure bred blue point Rag Doll was surrendered by it's lifelong family to WCAC.....she is devastated and will not eat or drink. She has 24 hours for someone to rescue her. Though we are a Dog Rescue...we are happy to sponsor this girl if anyone is willing to foster....or what would be more wonderful is if we could network and find someone to adopt her!!!! She is 12 years old...which would be old for a dog, but is mid-life for most indoor kitties!!!! She is very healthy and blood work was done yesterday which came back great....but without eating or drinking the shelter will be forced to make a decision for her. Spread the word to your cat lover friends and let's see if we can help out another four legged friend. I have posted her on our FB page if you would like to get on there and share it on your personal page.

Age: 12
Sex: female
Fee: just costs incurred

Ragdoll Rescue Indiana: Schroeder: Ragdoll Rehoming

Saturday, September 24, 2011 by Ragdoll Rehoming Team
Ragdoll Rescue IndianaBeautiful pure bred Ragdoll cat. Specifically, a Blue Bi-Color Ragdoll. One look and you will fall in love! This cat is our second Ragdoll as we love their floppy, easy going manor. We purchased him from a breeder, but regretfully can no longer keep him.

Schroeder had a bit of trouble with forming crystals in his bladder early on, which were remedied by changing his diet to moist mixed with a bit of water. He can not have dry food. This has posed a problem with our older Ragdoll, who refused to eat when only moist was served, and lost several pounds. So, we feed them separately, but Schroeder is aware of being kept from the dry food and is jealous. This is causing him to act out by not using his litter box that the two share.

He us on meds for behavior modification, but I feel he would be happier if he did not have to be in a home with other cats. He gets along well and is very playful, but very jealous and it is unavoidable.

Schroeder has some endearing behaviors like standing on his back feet and stretching up his paws to you like a bear, or sleeping in any position. He is well groomed, and still has a kitten face although he is a big cat, as most Ragdolls are. He loves to be in the same room with you, and will lay nearby.
I am praying for a good home for Schroeder, where he is a loved member of the family. He is great with kids, but easy going as he is, the kids should be watched to not hurt him. He is not declawed, and has a scratching post that he lives and uses instead of furniture. Any other use if his claws seems to be purely accidental as he stretches them or plays.

Here are pictures of Schroeder.  We actually made a calendar of him!  He also has a heart shaped “birthmark” or coloration on the bottom of his foot

Image available upon request.

Earthing.com Kit Arrives for Cat Product Testing at Floppycats.com!

Wednesday, September 21, 2011 by Jenny Dean
Trigg with Goodies from Earthing.com!Today we received a package in the mail from Earthing.com.  Earthing is the idea that grounding helps to protect the health of the body.  According to Earthing.com's website, "that direct connection to the Earth’s ground energy has a powerful and positive influence on the delicate balance between health and illness, and the prospect of living longer and better. "

We were sent one of these to check out after I had inquired with Martin Zucker about doing an interview with him about cat allergies, as requested by MeLinda of Merlin's Hope Ragdoll and Maine Coon Rescue.

Marty is now involved with Earthing.com and co-wrote the book about Earthing. So we got to talking and he offered to send one for me to check out.

We received a pure carbonized rubber conductive mat that people generally use as a floor mat.

Before Marty sent it, he mentioned in an e-mail, "It works quite well for indoor pets who have no access to the Earth's ground energy outside. They will often plop right on it and get energized.  From the feedback we have, animals are drawn to the energy.  You may see some results particularly for older infirm animals."

You'll see in the video below that Trigg, my blue lynx mitted Ragdoll cat, was immediately attracted to it and laid on it before I even plugged it in!

I found a diamond in the rough.....

Monday, September 19, 2011 by Ragdoll Cat Stories
A diamond in the roughHi....I lost my rescue tiger stripe kitty at age 18 years old and REALLY wanted another Kitty. I did a bit of looking on the internet and found the Ragdoll Breed facinating! A quick look at breeders and prices dampened my spirits!...So, I decided to look for a rescue locally. I used PETFINDER.COM and registered a search.
I live in Northern Kentucky and it appeared there were very few Ragdolls in this area. I waited patiently for monthes...then one day I got a hit...a male Ragdoll in Indiana, a 2 hour drive, in a "pound" (hi-kill shelter). That Saturday my hubby and I set off to go get "Rodger"(what a dumb name for this kitty!)
We arrived to find a very "ratty-looking" intact male with abcesses from fighting or defending himself...he had been found out on the streets and turned in.....I reluctantly accepted him ($25.00) and off to home we go!
The following 3 days were pure hell! He hid and marked Everywhere!!! We were unaware he had only had dry kibble and he was dehydrated and his urine aweful!.....
A week of antibiotics, neutered, and wet food and I FOUND My Prince! And what a sweety he is!
"Rodger" is now "Dakota Blue" and such a good kitty!
As you can see from his pictures, he is quite the Character! I still have my search on Petfinders, perhaps I can find him a buddy or girl-friend!
Happy ending for all! :)

Ragdoll Rescue MissouriBeautiful 4 year old ragdoll looking for a forever home. Snuggles is spayed.

We fostered and had many of the foster cats left behind. Snuggles loves cuddling, being by you, and lots of love. She is very laid back, but prefers no small children, and would really love to be the only pet.

Ragdoll Rescue Texas - Resources for Finding a Ragdoll Cat In Need in Texas

Sunday, September 11, 2011 by Amanda W
Deciding to adopt a Ragdoll instead of buying from a breeder is a noble decision for any current or future owner.  There are so many Ragdolls that are in need of forever homes, as is common with any pure breed of animal.  Sometimes new owners cannot meet the needs of a pet and they end up in a rescue that attempts to find a loving home.  While there is not one main organization to rescue Ragdolls, there are several small organizations that specialize in the breed.

There is a Ragdoll and Maine Coon Rescue in Texas called Merlin's Hope.  Merlin's Hope has been rescuing since 2005 and has re-homed and coordinated rescues for 600 plus cats. The rescue is quickly becoming mostly Ragdolls and will arrange transport if someone is interested in a Ragdoll that is in one of their monitored foster homes.

Stories of some of the Ragdoll's previous situations can be found on Merlin's Hope's website.  Read about how these brave kittens survived and how they found a forever home. Just imagine that you could be the one to take a cute Ragdoll from a home of scrounging through cabinets to one with a cat window bed, a personal sisal cat scratching post, and plenty of feather cat toys.

Happy Purrday Trigg!

Floppy catsI have four kitties (all rescues), Dobby, Lark, Finn, and Indigo, and these wonderful items would certainly be put to good use in our house! My cats have been wonderful and loving companions to me and I would love to be able to shower them with gifts in honor of Trigg's birthday! My cat rescue of choice is called The Cat Shoppe in Nashville, TN. It is a store that also rescues cats and does a lot for the kitty community! They always have a number of adorable kittens and older cats needing homes. While I cannot take another cat in to my home at this time, I would love it if they could get this stuff so the kitties they rescue would be able to experience the good life too!

Rag doll Cat Adoption - Whether a Rescue or a Kitten - Resources to Help Your Find Your Soulmate

Monday, August 29, 2011 by Amanda W
When it is time to add to or start your Ragdoll family the question of whether or not to adopt a kitten or rescue an older Ragdoll always arises.  Those who rescue older Ragdolls are true godsends, but nothing is cuter than a beautiful little ball of fluff that is a kitten.

If you decide on a kitten then you must decide whether it will be a show cat or not.  This will help you decide on a breeder versus other avenues to locate a kitten.  While not all kittens from breeders will be show cats some breeders are better known for show cats then others.

Kittens and older cats can also be found at local shelters or rescue organizations if you are willing to look.  Call or go online to see if any Ragdolls are available.  Remember Ragdolls are often mistaken for other breeds.

No matter what you decide to do as far as a cat or kitten make sure your home is ready for the newest addition.  Have a cat window bed for your new friend to relax in and maybe a lotus cat tree to scratch on.  A few cat snacks are never a bad idea either. Enjoy your new addition.

Rag doll Cats Rescue - Resources for Finding a Ragdoll Cat In Need

Monday, August 29, 2011 by Amanda W
It takes a special and unique individual to wish to rescue any animal and this is also true for Ragdoll rescues.  When you have decided to add to your feline family then adoption should definitely be an option.  There are many Ragdolls in all colors and sizes that need a forever home for one reason or another. So if you are looking for a Ragdoll to move into your loving home follow these simple tips.

Talk to finds, neighbors, and local shelters to see if any Ragdolls are available.  Often visiting a shelter is best as Ragdolls are many times classified as another breed such as Himalayan.

If there is a specific color such as a bicolor Ragdoll that you hope for then try posting to a discussion board or even calling local breeders to see if they have any older cats that are being retired from breeding.

Finally, cruise websites such as the Ragdoll forum to see if any Ragdolls need rehoming.  In forums such as these you can find out why the Ragdoll needs a home and any special characteristics or unique needs it may have.

Tasha's Gift

Monday, August 29, 2011 by Chiggy Wiggy
Tasha - Siamese RescueI rescued Tasha from a kill shelter she was getting sick and was 13 years old at the time. Her old owner had lost there house and I guess they didn't have another place to take this beautiful kitty. When she first got here every time I would leave she would hide in the cabinets making sure she wouldn't be taken back to that awful place. She was a light weight at 5.25 pounds with no from claws. I worried about my 2 other cats who both weight 11 pounds and have claws. But she stood her ground with both of them. That was 3 years ago. She now weights 7.26 pounds and looks great. This little old lady would like to win so she can finally have something to share with my other 2 cats.

I want the Southern California Siamese Rescue to get the other prize for all the cats they have in foster now to have some neat stuff to play with. It is all volunteer staff we do it for the love of the cats. So please pick Tasha and the Siamese Rescue to win.
Thank You

Zippy cat

Saturday, August 27, 2011 by Chiggy Wiggy
Floppy catI'd like to win because Zippy is such a special cat. We brought him home from a feral cat rescue agency, along with his sister Angel. Growing up, I was always a dog lover, but Zippy has converted me over to a cat lover too! He's an indoor cat, but we take him outside from time to time. He loves to chase birds and rabbits, even though he never gets anywhere close to catching him. He lies down in the grass and thinks he's invisible, especially when I go to pick him up to go in.

Ragdoll Rescue Cats - Resources for Finding A Ragdoll Cat In Need - Part Two

Saturday, August 27, 2011 by Amanda W
As mentioned in previous posts, rescuing a Ragdoll can be a rewarding experience. There are several ways in which a Ragdoll may be found.  If you are one of those special people who choose to adopt a Ragdoll in need then hopefully this blog will help you begin looking.  While the pound or local shelter may be the obvious option and may be the starting point there are other ways to adopt a Ragdoll who needs a forever home.

One way to find a Ragdoll may be to call breeders who may have aging cats whom they no longer wish to breed.  Often these cats will be sold very cheaply or adopted into a forever home.  Calling breeders that are not in your area is also an option as often shipment of the Ragdoll can be arranged.

Another option is to visit boards such as this one that list Ragdolls that need a forever home. Even visiting sites like Petfinder can help you to locate a Ragdoll.  Request photos as many Ragdolls are mistakenly listed as Himalayan or other breeds. No matter how you go about rescuing a Ragdoll the important thing is that you are creating a forever home and your new cat will thank you.

Ragdoll Rescue Cats - Resources for Finding A Ragdoll Cat In Need

Friday, August 26, 2011 by Amanda W
If You Want To Adopt A Ragdoll Rescue – Visit Our Ragdoll Rescue List On Our Blog. Be sure to scroll through to see all the kitties available!

Ragdoll books line the shelves, cat gyms sit unused, and a stitched picture of a bicolor Ragdoll hangs on the wall, but the one thing missing is a Ragdoll.  If you desperately want to be the proud owner of a Ragdoll but want to do the right thing by adopting then these suggestions may be just what you need.

The first step is always to check the local shelters and pounds.  Adopting an older cat or one that is simply unwanted will make the cat extra special to you and you are saving a life.  In order to find a Ragdoll at a shelter one should check websites for the shelter, call the shelter to see if any Ragdoll's are available and make a trip to view the animals.  Ragdolls are often mistaken for other breeds so a trip may be necessary to double check whether a Ragdoll is available.

Make sure if you are adopting from a shelter that you have the animal fixed and find out if it has any special needs that may affect its overall health. This way you can expect a happy life together as owner and pet.  So if you are ready to add to your furry family or searching for the first time try to rescue a Ragdoll and give him or her a forever home.

Ragdoll Rescue Toronto - How to Find a Ragdoll in Need in Toronto

Thursday, August 25, 2011 by Amanda W
Many pure bred animals require special care or in the least a special type of care from their owners.  This is true of Ragdoll cats also.  Pure bred pets being abandoned creates the need for rescue organizations.  If you are interested in adopting a Ragdoll that is in need of rescue there are a few directions that can be taken.

First, visit a local pound.  Calling can help but Ragdolls are often mistaken for other breeds like Himalayans so an in person visit may be the best option.  Also, visiting online photos of pound animals can be helpful before you make the trip.

Other online sites such as PetFinder can also have Ragdolls that are up for adoption.  Again take the time to look through photos as many Ragdolls are misclassified.

A final option may be to contact breeders that may have older Ragdolls that need a forever home.  If there are no breeders in your area then the animal can be shipped or picked up in person in many instances.

For even more ideas visit Floppy Cats.  If you know of a great place to adopt or a Ragdoll rescue in your area stop by the forum and let others know so these lovely felines are not abandoned or put down unnecessarily.

Abby

AbbyMy cat's name is Abby. She loves to talk all the time. She greets everyone every morning with a loud "MEOW" as if she's saying good morning but really what she wants is to eat. She loves to run around the house and create all kinds of chaos with the dog who by the way puts up with it for about 2 seconds and then wants to be "protected" from the CAT!!!! Abby would just love all of these goodies to eat and play with. She would also love to share her goodies with her favorite no-kill shelter called Furkids in Atlanta, Ga so that all the kitties there can enjoy these wonderful things. Furkids is a wonderful organization and deserves to receive this wonderful prize package. Thank you!
